Non-Restorable Tooth Removal

At some point a tooth may not be restorable for several reasons:

  • There could be extensive decay in a tooth.
  • A tooth could have a fracture that makes restoration difficult or unpredictable.
  • The patient may decide not to try to restore a tooth with a root canal and crown.

For whatever the reason sometimes a tooth needs to be removed. Dr. Wert at San Antonio Oral Surgery has extensive experience with atraumatic tooth removal.

Our San Antonio implant dentist will discuss your options for replacement as well. In some situations the tooth is removed and a dental implant can be placed at the same time. Other times the tooth is removed and a ridge preservation graft is done to better predict bone healing for a later implant or bridge.

Various types of anesthesia are available as well:

  • Local anesthesia (numbing medication)
  • Nitrous oxide with local anesthesia
  • Sedation with oral medications in combination with nitrous oxide and local anesthesia
  • IV Sedation in combination with nitrous oxide and local anesthesia
  • General Anesthesia at an outpatient surgery center
