MEET DR. LONG
Retired Colonel Larry Keith Long, USAF, was until recently Staff Surgeon at Joint Base San Antonio Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery’s Residency Program. Dr. Long was the Clinical Flight Commander for the Oral and Maxillofacial
Surgery Department, where he was instrumental in the education of over 45 United States Air Force and Army Oral
Surgery Residents.
Colonel Long received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Biology at the University of North Carolina
Chapel Hill. He then joined the United States Air Force in 1995 after obtaining his Dental Degree from the University
of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. Dr. Long’s initial assignment in the Air Force was a one-year
General Dentistry Residency at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dr. Long was accepted into the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program at Wilford Hall Medical Center,
Lackland Air Force Base in 1999. He received his Medical Doctorate from the University of Texas Health Science Center
at San Antonio in 2003. Dr. Long completed a one-year medical internship in General Surgery in 2004 at Wilford Hall
Medical Center, and then received his Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2005.
Colonel Long’s Air Force assignments have also included MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida from 2005-2009; and
the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado from 2009-2013.
Dr. Long is a Fellow in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Board of Oral
and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is also a member of various other Medical and Dental Societies and Organizations.
When not practicing Oral Surgery, Dr. Long enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, as well as working
on his ranch in South Texas.
